Your questions answered

What do I do to prepare for my tan?

  • Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise leading up to your appointment in particular your lower legs and don’t forget to exfoliate as best as you can and remove unwanted hair at least the night before to allow time for your pores to close. Ensure the skin is free from make up, moisturiser, deodorant and perfume. Tie your hair back off your face.  Also, have some loose dark clothes to pop on after and thongs for your feet.   Oh and an umbrella if wet weather is expected. For more information on pre and post spray tan preparation please go to our Tanning Tips page.

How many days before my event should I tan?

  • As a general guide a tan is usually at its best the 2nd day.  However its entirely individual and how many days prior to an event you spray tan is dependent upon what day you love your tan the best. However if you don’t know if you love your tan the best on the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd or 4th day,  we always suggest to tan at least 1 – 2 days before your event. For events such as weddings 2 days before for a more natural look. Pre holiday tans the night before. However, this is just a guideline we can always tailor our tan application or time left on the skin to work with your schedule and highly suggest a pre tan trial for special events.

When can I shower after my tan?

  • Vani-T is rapid drying. You can shower as soon as 1 hour after your tan or leave on the skin for up to 8 hours. We will always tailor our application to work with your plans to ensure you achieve your desired colour.

Do you need to wear sunscreen?

  • Yes you do.  Faux tanning doesn’t offer any protection from UV rays, so please, please when you’re outdoors wear an SPF50+ sunscreen lotion wherever possible.

Will the tan come off on my clothes?

  • When you are initially tanned you will experience some rub off onto your clothes in the first few hours. However Vani-T is 100% organic and won’t stain.  So don’t worry it’ll all come out in the wash or at the dry cleaner.

Does swimming in chlorinated water / sea water affect my tan?

  • Yes it does. Swimming enhances exfoliation, and chlorinated water is like bleach and makes the skin lighter, which fades the tan more quickly. When you’re going swimming, you can try wearing a water resistant sunscreen, which may act as a barrier to the chlorine or seawater. Take a quick dip instead of a long swim if you want to prevent excessive fading and exfoliation.

Do I have to take my clothes off?

  • No way – you can wear whatever you’re comfortable wearing during tanning sessions. You can wear your bathers, underwear, g-strings or go completely naked – whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

How long does it take to dry?

  • Generally, you are dry within 3 minutes and ready to get dressed.

Can pregnant or breastfeeding women be sprayed?

  • Testing indicates that the DHA does not penetrate the skin, nor enter the bloodstream; therefore it appears safe to spray pregnant women. However, as a precaution we suggest the client seeks permission from a doctor prior to being sprayed in the first trimester.

Do you apply tan to the face?

  • Yes we do. But it’s always the client’s choice.

How long will my tan last?

  • Vani-T has a reputation for being the longest lasting natural tan. You should expect it to stay for between seven and ten days. It’ll fade away gradually with the passing skin cells. To prolong your tan, moisturise daily, because the outer layer of the skin is constantly being replenished and regenerated.
  • Note:  Please do not use Sorbolene or Q10 as these are barrier creams and will rub off your tan. We recommend using doctor brand only Legs like hers® for ultimate hydration to prolong the tan and give your legs a really healthy sheen or Vani-T’s own Bronzing Custard tan extender applied every 2nd day.
